Download pdf versionIn February 2024 FoMBL were asked to join a working group set up by CEC Thriving Green Spaces development team.
The leader of the team, Marco Gallo, has held 6 meetings since then to present proposals and seek comment and views from FoMBL. Substantial discussion have taken place over this period with support and contributions from FoMBL Trustees.
The result is a final chosen location at the south end of Middle Meadow Walk.
Comments made by FoMBL, MCC and other park users were positive for new toilets but not so keen on the chosen location which was considered to be too far from more heavily used more central areas such as the Cricket Pavilion, North Meadow Walk and site of the present temporary toilets.
Marco's team, however, had to resolve many issues in order to decide on best site and these are all given in detail in this link: https://www.thrivinggreenspaces.scot/project see section on public toilets in edinburgh parks.
The proposal which you can see above has 3 separate unisex cubicles, one cubicle with 3 urinals, a disabled cubicle and a changing place.
The CEC team agreed to include a store and outside tap for FoMBL to use for storing gardening tools etc.
A refreshment kiosk is also proposed to help fund the running of the toilet. Planning and building standards applications are still to be made as is a legal decision on whether permanent kiosk and store complies with the Confirmation Act 1991.
Subject to the above, CEC hope to complete the toilet by the end of 2024.
